Miguel Agustín Pro, Priest and Martyr (USA) / red Today’s Saints: Pope Clement I was the successor to St. Peter, leading the Church through an age of tumult and growth. He urged the Christian community to live in charity and unity. Like his predecessor, St. Clement was martyred in witness to his faith. St. Columban was an Irish monk who left Ireland to establish monasteries in France, Germany, and Italy. St. Columban exhorted his monks to set aside temporary pleasures and remain focused on eternal things, a lesson he modeled in his own life of prayer and service. Bl. Miguel Agustín Pro was a Jesuit priest who was martyred by anticlericalists in Mexico. Bl. Miguel witnessed to his faith during his life with spiritual and corporal works of mercy: caring for the poor and hungry, offering the sacraments, and instructing the faithful.
